Attendance at this conference can last more than one day. Those registering this conference will become members of an online community of people interested in the use of technology for teaching and promoting a variety of disciplines.
Below are some of the locations you may visit on your field trips during the conference!
All times are in Pacific(US West Coast) Time, which corresponds to Second Life Time.
Participants who have are not familiar with Second Life will be invited to attend a pre-conference orientation to Second Life in the week prior to the conference. This orientation will help new visitors learn how to walk, talk, interact and generally get around in the virtual world environment.
Participants already familiar with Second Life will not need to take part.
(All times are Pacific time, which corresponds to Second Life time.)
8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Troy McConaghy does media projects on the Web and in the virtual world Second Life® (SL). Most of his projects are related to science or technology. His educational background is in applied math, physics, space exploration, and astrodynamics.
9:15 - 10:30 a.m.
During this time period, participants can choose between attending a breakout session presented by persons using virtual worlds to teach and promote science, or take part in a field trip. Field trips involve teleporting directly to one or more of the best science-related projects in Second Life. It is during our field trips that we actually "step into science" by virtually exploring the 3D environment.
10:30 - 11:00
A short break will give our participants time to take care of "real world" issues and to find their avatar a seat for Science Friday.
11:00 - Noon
We are very excited to be able to offer our conference participants the opportunity to take part in the live audience for hour one of Science Friday, the popular science radio show that is broadcast from Second Life and into public radio stations across the country.
12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.

1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Participants will re-convene as a group to discuss what they have seen with a panel of experts and each other. This is envisioned as a wide-ranging discussion of the potential of virtual worlds for promoting science.
